AI Search Optimization for Small Businesses

Search is no longer limited to a list of blue links. Customers can ask Google, ChatGPT, Bing, Gemini and other answer-driven systems longer questions that combine service, location, business type and specific requirements.

Stamm Web Creations helps small businesses strengthen the information those systems can discover and evaluate through AI Search Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and the SEO fundamentals underneath all three.

I do not treat AI search as a replacement for SEO. I treat it as another place where a business needs to be discoverable, understandable and qualified for the right customer.

DISCOVERABLE  →  UNDERSTANDABLE  →  RECOMMENDABLE

THE SEARCH HAS MORE THAN ONE REQUIREMENT

Search Is Becoming a Qualification Process

A traditional search might begin with a short commercial phrase such as SEO company near me.

An AI-driven search can carry much more context: Who can help a small business improve its website, Local SEO and visibility in AI search without replacing the whole site?

The system may need to identify the service, the type of customer, the geographic fit, the website platform, the current problem and whether the provider actually offers the requested combination.

SHORT QUERY

“SEO company near me”

Broad commercial relevance can be enough to enter the result set.

COMPOUND QUESTION

One request. Several qualifications.

A business can be generally relevant to SEO and still fail a narrower requirement because the website never clearly establishes that capability.

A SIMPLE WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT

Discoverable → Understandable → Recommendable

I look at AI search visibility in three practical steps.

01

Discoverable

Important pages still have to be crawlable, indexed, easy to reach through internal links and technically accessible. AI search did not erase SEO fundamentals. It makes the foundation matter even more.
02

Understandable

Finding a page is not the same as understanding a business. Your services, service area, expertise and proof should be clear enough that a search or answer system does not have to guess what you actually do.
03

Recommendable

No one can force an answer engine to recommend your business. I can make the services, proof and supporting information clearer so the system has better evidence when it evaluates possible sources or providers.
WHAT AN AI SYSTEM HAS TO FIGURE OUT

What Do You Do? Do You Fit? Is There Enough Evidence?

An answer system still has to answer a few basic questions before it can confidently surface a business.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

Can it tell what your business actually does?

Your website should not make a search engine or answer system guess your main services from scattered mentions, photos or a vague services page.
DO YOU FIT THE REQUEST?

Does your business match what the customer asked for?

A business can be relevant to SEO and still miss a more specific request involving small businesses, WordPress, Local SEO, AI visibility, a specific market or another real requirement.
IS THERE ENOUGH EVIDENCE?

Is there enough evidence to surface your business?

No one controls which source gets selected. The useful work is making your claims clear, accurate and supported by evidence so your business has a legitimate chance to compete.
WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

AI Search Optimization Is Not One Trick

For most small businesses, the work starts with what already exists. I look for places where the website is vague, incomplete or difficult to verify. The goal is not to stuff every possible phrase onto a page. It is to make the real business easier to understand.

01

Service clarity

Important services deserve enough explanation to stand on their own instead of being buried inside generic copy.

02

How the pages connect

Internal links should help people and search systems understand how your services, useful supporting pages and proof connect.

03

Technical access

Crawling, indexing, rendering and basic page accessibility still determine whether important information can be retrieved.

04

Business evidence

Claims are stronger when the website, reviews, profiles, citations and other real-world signals tell the same story about the business.

05

Structured information

Structured data can clarify supported information when it accurately matches visible content. It is not an AI ranking switch.

06

Measurement

I look at conventional search data alongside AI visibility reports, citations, referrals and repeated checks where those signals are available.

When the main problem is Google Maps, Google Business Profile or local market visibility, that belongs in Local SEO.

AEO. GEO. AI SEO.

This Is Still SEO

You may see terms such as AI SEO, AEO, GEO, LLM Optimization and AI Search Optimization. The labels are useful because they describe a changing search environment, but they can also make ordinary business owners think they need an entirely separate technical universe.

Google’s current guidance says its generative AI search features remain rooted in core Search systems and that AEO/GEO work should still be evaluated as SEO. I use AI Search Optimization as the primary label because it describes the business problem without pretending conventional SEO stopped mattering.

WHAT I DO NOT SELL

No Magic Files. No Guaranteed Recommendations.

I do not guarantee ChatGPT recommendations, Google AI placements, Bing citations or visibility in any particular answer.

I do not create hundreds of thin pages for prompt variants, treat special schema as an AI-ranking button, or tell clients that one plugin, file or acronym will make an LLM favor their website.

If a recommendation cannot be connected to better discovery, clearer understanding, stronger evidence or useful measurement, it probably does not belong in the strategy.

MEASURE WHAT CAN ACTUALLY BE OBSERVED

How I Measure AI Search Visibility

AI-search measurement is still developing, so I use several forms of evidence instead of pretending there is one perfect ranking report. One screenshot of a business appearing in an answer is not enough to prove a trend.

GOOGLE

Generative AI visibility

Search Console now provides dedicated reporting for impressions and pages appearing in Google generative AI features, alongside conventional Search performance.

BING / COPILOT

Citations + grounding queries

Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance exposes citation activity, cited URLs, trends and samples of grounding queries used to retrieve referenced content.

CHATGPT

Discovery + referral signals

A public site can be discoverable in ChatGPT search when crawler access permits it. Referral traffic and repeated citation checks can provide additional evidence.

PATTERN CHECKS

Look for change over time

One AI answer can be noisy. Rechecking the same kinds of questions over time can show whether visibility is becoming more consistent.

FIRST-PARTY EXPERIENCE

A Real AI Search Baseline From Wichita

I use my own website to test what I recommend.

In Google Search Console exports reviewed September 8–10, 2026, Stamm’s Wichita page was already receiving impressions across conventional SEO and web-design searches. In those same samples, I found no Wichita impressions containing the AI-search vocabulary I was tracking, including AI SEO, AEO, GEO, ChatGPT-related SEO, Perplexity, Gemini or generative-search terminology.

That gives me a real before-point to measure against.

WHAT I AM WATCHING

Does clearer AI-search information change what Google understands about Stamm?

I am adding a clear explanation of AI Search Optimization to the Stamm website and watching whether the search and AI-visibility signals around the business change. The Wichita page already gives me a useful baseline because it has existing search history.

I will not call the result a case study until there is enough evidence.

The work is active. It is not a case study yet.

BETTER EVIDENCE, NOT MORE PAGES

A Website Can Put an Accidental Ceiling on the Business

A business may offer more than Google, an answer system or even a first-time customer can clearly see. That does not always mean the site needs more content. It may mean the real business is poorly represented.

If you offer several legitimate services, customers should not have to decode one vague services page to figure out what you can actually do. Sometimes the fix is a stronger existing page. Sometimes a service needs a clearer explanation.

The goal is not more pages. It is better evidence.

LOCAL BUSINESSES

AI Search and Local SEO Intersect Without Becoming the Same Service

A location-specific request may require both service evidence and credible geographic evidence. The website, business profiles, reviews and service information should reinforce one another.

That is where Local SEO and AI Search Optimization overlap. Local SEO focuses more deeply on local discovery and geographic signals. AI Search Optimization looks more broadly at whether answer-driven systems can understand the business when a question combines several requirements.

THE WEBSITE STILL MATTERS

An Answer Engine Cannot Retrieve Evidence That Does Not Exist

If the website barely explains its services, AI optimization cannot manufacture expertise out of thin air. If every page says essentially the same thing, another acronym will not fix the website.

Sometimes the strongest AI-search recommendation is remarkably ordinary: build a better page, clarify a service, improve the internal path, or leave a page that already works alone.

WHO THIS SERVICE IS FOR

Useful When the Business Is Real but the Digital Evidence Is Incomplete

AI Search Optimization makes the most sense when you already have a real business and a useful website, but the site does not clearly show everything you can do.

That may be a business that ranks for broad services but not more specific work, has added capabilities the site barely mentions, operates across several markets, sees competitors cited where it is absent, or wants a real AI-search baseline before chasing another marketing trend.

It is probably not the right starting point if the website is broken, thin, inaccurate or unable to explain the basic business. In that case, I would fix the foundation first.

DIRECT WITH GREG

No Sales Handoff. No Permanent Formula.

Stamm Web Creations is intentionally small. Greg works directly on the strategy, research and website decisions.

That matters in a category changing this quickly. I would rather test, measure and adjust than pretend there is a permanent formula for systems that continue to evolve.

AI SEARCH QUESTIONS, ANSWERED PLAINLY

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI Search Optimization?

AI Search Optimization is the process of improving how clearly search and answer systems can discover, understand and evaluate a business and its content. It overlaps heavily with SEO while paying additional attention to answer-driven experiences, complex questions, citations, qualification signals and how businesses are represented across AI-powered search systems.

Is AEO the same as GEO?

The terms overlap. AEO usually means Answer Engine Optimization, while GEO usually means Generative Engine Optimization. Different agencies use them differently. Stamm does not treat them as separate products; both sit under the broader goal of improving visibility and understanding across modern search systems.

Does AI Search Optimization replace traditional SEO?

No. Google’s own current guidance says generative AI search remains rooted in core Search systems. Technical SEO, useful content, clear service pages, internal linking and credible business evidence remain foundational.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT or another AI system will recommend my business?

No. No legitimate agency controls the recommendations generated by ChatGPT, Google, Bing, Gemini or another independent platform. I can improve the information and evidence available to those systems. I cannot guarantee what they will select.

Can schema markup make my business appear in AI answers?

Structured data can help search engines understand supported information when it is accurate and matches the visible page. It is not an AI-ranking switch, and Google says there is no special schema required for its AI search features.

Do I need a brand-new website?

Usually not. Many improvements can be made by strengthening an existing site through clearer service pages, better internal links, improved technical accessibility or stronger supporting evidence. If the existing site is fundamentally holding the business back, I will say so.

How do you measure whether the work is helping?

I use multiple signals: Search Console performance, dedicated AI visibility reports where available, referral traffic, citations and mentions where observable, cited URLs, competitor comparisons and repeat checks over time. The exact mix depends on the platforms relevant to the business.

Can this work with my existing SEO strategy?

Yes. In many cases that is preferable. AI Search Optimization should strengthen a good SEO strategy, not compete with it. The first job is to identify what is already working, what is missing and which successful pages should be left alone.

THE GOAL IS NOT TO CHASE EVERY AI ANSWER

Find Out How AI Search Systems See Your Business

Search will keep changing. There will be new interfaces, new acronyms and new claims about how businesses are supposed to optimize for AI.

The underlying business problem is more durable: your business needs to be found, understood correctly and supported by enough evidence to qualify when a customer asks for exactly what you do.

I can start with the business you actually operate, the services your website communicates, the questions customers ask and the places where important details may be missing.

No magic package. No guaranteed AI ranking. Just a clearer picture of what the systems can see and what may be worth improving.
